One of our first nights in Bangkok, we went looking for a sit-in evening — talk, a band, no countdown clock — and somehow ended up under a speaker next to a glass stage. It was not a bad night at all. It was simply a different sport. We had walked into the right kind of fun with the wrong expectations, and spent the first hour waiting for a conversation that the room was never designed to start.
If you only remember one difference, remember the furniture.
A go-go bar is built around a stage. Women dance in sets, each with a number, while you drink and decide whether to call a number over. A lady bar — a sit-in room — is built around a table. Someone sits down, talks, drinks what you buy her, and the night is conversation first. The furniture already told you which script you walked into.
A go-go sells a show. A sit-in table sells company. Sideline is the person who also has a Tuesday morning.
What we kept looking for, on other platforms and later on our own, were sideline girls: adult women, 18 or over, who offer paid meetings as a side job beside university or ordinary work. That is what nongfan lists. It is not a third room and not the next stage after a bar. It is a different way of meeting altogether, and after a lot of good bar nights, it is the one we are convinced of.
The two rooms, without the folklore
A lady bar, or sit-in bar, is a hostess room. You take a table or a stool. A woman who works there joins you. You buy your drink and you buy hers — the lady drink — which is how she is paid to stay. There is no stage and usually no door charge. In a lot of Bangkok’s big suburban rooms the point is company: food, a live band, Thai customers, conversation. Many of those rooms have no bar fine because the hostesses are not there to leave with you. In Chiang Mai, on parts of Loi Kroh Road, and in beerier cousins of the same idea, a bar fine can exist. Pattaya’s Soi 6 is the loud, short-time relative: sit-in energy, rooms upstairs, a price system that changes with the hour. If you came for sit-in, start by asking whether this particular room is a conversation room or a departure room. The names get used loosely. The till does not.
A go-go bar is the postcard foreigners were sold. A stage, dancers in rotation, numbers you can quote to the mamasan, seats around the show. You walk in free, you order a drink, you watch a set. If you want someone beside you, you buy a lady drink. If you both want to leave, you pay the bar a bar fine — a release fee to the house — and then you agree her own fee with her. Bangkok’s known strips are Nana Plaza, Soi Cowboy and Patpong. Pattaya’s are Walking Street and LK Metro. Phuket’s version lives around Bangla Road. The night is designed so that you always know where you are in the script. That is the professional version of this world, and it is very good at being exactly that.
We are not going to pretend the go-go is confusing once you have read our beginner guide. It is readable. It is also, after a few nights, repetitive in a way the marketing never mentions: the same rotation, the same numbers, the same conversation about where you are from. If that is the evening you want, it will deliver.
Lady bar / sit-in
A table. Company first. What it does well: relaxed, social, unhurried. You can eat, hear a band and talk without a countdown. Plenty of our favourite evenings never left the table.
Go-go
A stage and a number. What it does well: a real show, full of energy, and you can walk in with no chat history. The dancers are professionals at a demanding job, and a well-run room always tells you where you are in the script.
Sideline
Not a room. An adult woman with a normal week, who also offers a meeting on the side. This is what nongfan lists.

Freelancer on nongfan always means an adult woman working on the street: a known stroll, no house, no bar fine. That is a separate, direct option with its own appeal. It is not a sideline girl, and it is not someone who approaches you in a club.
Where sideline actually sits
Sideline is not a bar format. That is the first thing people mix up, including us, the first year we used the other directories.
A sideline girl — dek sideline in Thai slang — is a part-timer. Public guides describe her the same way we do: she has a daytime life, often university or an ordinary job, and she meets people on the side when she wants the money or the night. You do not pick her off a podium. You find a profile, you message on LINE or another app, you check that the person is real, and you meet. There is no lady drink because there is no house drink to commission. There is no bar fine because there is no bar. There is one conversation about time, place and money, and nobody at a till is taking a cut of her shift.

sideline
An adult woman offering paid meetings part-time, beside university, a job, or an ordinary week. Not a nightly bar rotation. This is what nongfan lists.
dek sideline
Thai slang for that part-timer. Dek means kid. In this market it does not mean a minor, it is not a date of birth, and it is not a costume. On this site it only ever means an adult.
dek en
An entertainment companion for drinks and clubs, paid by the hour, at least on paper. Adult only. The word dek here is slang, not an age.
gik
A semi-regular arrangement with an allowance and some kind of ongoing tie. Still adults only.
freelancer
On this site, always the street: an adult woman met in person on a known stroll, no venue behind her. Sideline girls also work independently, but we never call them freelancers, and we never use the word for someone who approaches you in a club.
escort
The word every profile likes. A real agency holds photos, replaces a no-show, and may refuse you. Most pages that reply in thirty seconds with studio pictures are sideline or freelance listings using a fancier noun.
lady bar
A seated hostess room. No stage. Company paid for with lady drinks. Whether anyone leaves depends on the house.
go-go
A stage, dancers in rotation, numbers, and a till that can release someone from a shift.
Chiang Mai’s older explainer puts it bluntly, and we agree with the bluntness: a full-time worker in a soapy shop is not a sideline girl, a bargirl on a payroll is not a sideline girl, and a freelancer advertising the word does not become one by typing it.
If a profile is using sideline as decoration on what is obviously a go-go shift, believe the shift.

We have had both nights. The good ones are why this is our mark. The bad ones are why Trust Level exists.
What you pay, and who gets it
In a lady bar you are mostly buying time at the table. Your beer, her lady drinks, maybe food. Public 2026 guides put lady drinks roughly in the 100–250 baht band in these rooms, and a sit-down Bangkok evening with one hostess in the low thousands if you do not let the table fill with extra glasses. If that particular room has a bar fine and you both leave, the fine goes to the house and her fee is separate — the same split we described in the beginner guide.
In a go-go the till has more chapters: your drinks, lady drinks (often a bit higher, roughly 160–290 baht in the same vintage of guides), a bar fine that may run from several hundred baht to well over a thousand depending on the city and the room, then her short-time or long-time fee, then a hotel or a joiner charge. You are paying for a show and for a professional machine that knows how to release someone from a shift.
In a sideline meeting you are usually paying one agreed number to her, or through whoever actually handles her bookings. Published Bangkok bands for a meeting often sit around 2,500–5,000 baht, with more for stronger English, and monthly arrangements quoted in a much wider range. There is no bar fine. There is also no mamasan to complain to if the person who arrives is not the person on the page.
So the go-go can look safer in a structural sense — you see her, the house has a name — and more expensive once you add the show. Sideline can look simpler on a receipt and more interesting as a meeting, and it asks more of you before anyone shows up. We think that trade is worth it, which is not the same as saying it is free of homework.

Why we are convinced of sideline
We should be honest about taste, because this page is not a United Nations report.
Both rooms above are good nights, and we still go. A professional go-go dancer is good at a job that is physically hard and socially sharp. That competence is real, and a well-run room is a great night. The more nights we spent in them, the clearer it became what we personally wanted: a woman who has another life beside this work.
Sideline is that. She may have a lecture tomorrow. She may have spent the afternoon at a shop counter or finishing a day-job shift. She may be awkward in English and very clear in LINE stickers. She may cancel because her actual job ran late — annoying, and also proof that this is not her only stage. The advantages we are sold on: the meeting sits beside her normal week rather than inside a shift; there is no house between you, no lady-drink ladder, no bar fine, no badge number; and you choose from listings rather than whoever is on rotation that hour.
Sit-in rooms sit in the middle, which is why we pair them with sideline on this page. A good lady bar already feels closer to company than to a show. A sideline meeting takes that feeling out of the building entirely. That is the line we draw through the whole site: we would rather follow women who do this beside another life than treat the professional bar shift as the main event.
If you prefer the show, there is no shortage of it, and our beginner guide will walk you through it without sneering. It is simply not our centre.
The catch we will not smile past
The reason other listing sites frustrated us is the same reason sideline needs a careful page: when there is no stage in front of you, the photos become the product. Other platforms have little incentive to say when those photos are copies. More pages mean more inventory, whether or not anyone checked whether the woman who arrives matches the listing. We used those sites. We got tired of being the last to notice. That is why we built nongfan, and why Trust Level cannot be bought.
Other guides put the honesty problem in numbers — one widely read 2026 sideline explainer estimates that only about 60 to 70 percent of photos match, and that no-shows are common because part-timers have other lives. ThailandNightlife, sideline guide. Treat that as their fieldwork, not as our census. What we can say from our side is simpler: facts that jump around across platforms are a signal, studio sets without a living face behind them are a signal, and a deposit demanded by a stranger before anyone has met is usually the scam itself.
- A dated selfie.
- A short video call.
- A reverse-image search.
- Agree time, place and money in writing.
- Pay when you meet, not when a Telegram account is in a hurry.
- Use a hotel that will take an ID at the desk.
- If an agent is in the middle, remember that the middle is where most of the fiction lives.
The double life is the appeal. It is also why she might be late, why she might cancel, and why a page that looks too perfect should make you slower, not faster.
Age, because the slang is sloppy
Not legal advice. Under 18 is an absolute stop.
Dek means kid in Thai. In this market people use dek sideline for university-age adults doing part-time work. The slang is not a date of birth. It is not a costume. It is not a request for anyone under 18.
We will say this on every page that needs it. Anyone under 18 is a serious crime, whatever they look like, whatever a chat says, whatever an ID looks like if you still have doubt. Student on nongfan means an adult at university or college. It never means a pupil and it never means someone still in school. If you are unsure, you leave. There is no clever version of staying.
Licensed entertainment places are generally for customers 20 and over. A sideline meeting has no doorman doing that job for you. That is not a thrill. It is a responsibility.
When a bar is simply the right choice
We are biased, and we can still be useful.
If this is your first night in the country, a lady bar or a calmer go-go is easier to read than an app. You see the person. There is a bill. There is a mamasan. You can watch one set and leave. Our beginner guide starts there on purpose.
If you want sit-in company and no departure at all, a Bangkok lady bar with no bar fine is a lovely, uncomplicated evening.
If what you actually want is our mark — an adult woman with another life, booked as herself rather than released from a shift — then the bar is research, not the destination. Look at whether the profile holds together. Look at Trust Level. And keep the night human: the interesting part is not that someone is not a professional. The interesting part is that she is also someone else on Monday.

FAQ
Is a lady bar the same as a sit-in bar?
Close enough for a first explanation: a seated hostess room, no stage, company paid for with lady drinks. Whether anyone leaves depends on the city and the house. Ask.
Is sideline just a lady bar without the band?
No. A lady bar is a workplace with a till. Sideline is a part-time meeting arranged outside a venue, usually online.
Is sideline the next step after a bar?
No. It is a separate way of meeting, not a third stage. Many people enjoy all of them.
Is a sideline girl a freelancer?
Not in our vocabulary. Freelancer always means an adult woman working on the street. Sideline girls are found through profiles.
Why do you keep saying sideline is more interesting than go-go?
Taste, stated plainly. A go-go is a professional show. We would rather meet adult women who offer this as a side job — students, office workers, anyone with a normal week — because that is the sideline world, and that is what our directory is built around. It is not a moral scoreboard.
Are go-go dancers just professionals, then?
They are professionals at a real job. If that is the night you want, it will work. It is not the night we built this directory around.
Is this about OnlyFans?
No. Sideline on this site means adult women who offer paid meetings as a side job, next to studies or ordinary work. That is what you browse here. It is not a content-subscription guide.
Is dek sideline underage?
No. It is slang for a part-timer, often used for university students. On this site that only ever means adults. Anyone under 18 is off limits, no exceptions.
Why should I care about Trust Level here more than in a go-go?
Because in a go-go she is standing in front of you. In a sideline listing, the page is doing that job — and too many pages are copies. We compare what public listings actually say. We do not sell the number.
Go-go atmosphere, filmed by other people
These links are the stage, not a hunt. We have not embedded them. Nothing plays by itself. They are other people’s walk-throughs of Nana Plaza and Soi Cowboy.
